Can Unlicensed Drivers Obtain Auto Coverage?
Insurance won't get you out of a ticket but it will pay for damages caused by you up to your policy limits and it also protects those persons in your vehicle at the time of an accident. The financial protection you receive in the event of an accident is very important. Keep in mind it is illegal to operate a vehicle without a driver's license.
At Illinois Vehicle, we believe it is better to have an insured unlicensed driver on the road rather than an uninsured unlicensed one. Therefore, the policies offered to our customers who have a driver’s license and those who do not have a driver’s license are the same. This is also the case with international, Mexican and any other non US licensed driver.
If the unlicensed driver is unlicensed due to their driver’s license being suspended or is allowing a licensed driver to operate their vehicle, Illinois Vehicle will work with you to develop the best possible auto insurance policy.
Illinois Vehicle requires the following in order to issue unlicensed auto insurance:
- A valid ID card to confirm their identity
- Proof of date of birth
- Vin number of vehicle
