Generally, a driver is considered “high-risk” if the individual has:
- Three or more convictions and/or guilty pleas for moving violations.
- A single conviction and/or guilty plea for DUI/DWI, a hit and run violation, vehicular negligent injury or reckless operation of a vehicle within the period of twelve months.
Other High-Risk Determining Factors:
- New and young drivers are considered a greater risk than seasoned/adult drivers and will usually pay more for insurance coverage.
- Motorists living in urban areas pose a greater risk than those living in rural areas.
- Males are considered greater risks than females.
- Multiple speeding tickets and/or multiple accidents, regardless of fault, often denote a driver as reckless to insurance companies.
- Drivers with poor credit histories tend to be classified as higher risk drivers.
